What Happened.........

This tasting was organized by Carl and Ruby Dollhopf and Chris and Sharon Arnold.

Paul Mann is a respected friend and, as a genuine expert on German wines, has kept us well informed for many years. This tasting was no exception.

Thirty members and guests were presented an orderly and representative selection of wines from the Pfalz and Mosel regions along with Mr. Mann’s lively and descriptive commentary. Much was learned about the wines, their origins and their makers as we sampled the better part of the top range in German wines.

The aperitif and the first two Rieslings marked the dryer wines now being made.  The variety of wines continues to be very broad.

The Dr. Loosen was a very good traditional Riesling and was followed by a Kabinett that was a near spaetlese in character.

The final wines, a spaetlese and an auslese demonstrated the high standards of their makers in balancing acidity and sweetness, with the latter approaching a dessert wine.

All of the wines were very well received and we greatly appreciated Paul Mann’s presentation.

Good breads and cheeses were served with the wines and the tasting concluded with coffee and small desserts.
