AWS 2011 Picnic

Join us for an “All American Picnic” on the Lake!  This year we will be serving Bev Brisko’s special recipe of BBQ Ribs.  Wine and even some beer will be provided   Bring your favorite picnic dish to pass (sized for approximately 12 – 15 people).  Come join in the fun as we begin the 2011/2012 AWS Detroit Chapter schedule.

According to AWS rules we must have all participants pre-registered. Guests are welcome.  Attendance will be limited to the first 45.  Reservation deadline is September 6, 2011.  

Wine glasses, plates, and utensils will be provided.

Attendees recognize they will consume alcohol and assume responsibility for having done so.

What Happened.........

It was a wonderful day for a picnic, good food, good wine, and good friends at Ken and Margaret Grezlik’s home.

First, a Remembrance

We remembered those who lost their lives on this day in 2001, in New York City, Washington D.C., and a farmer’s field in Pennsylvania.  A Military Chaplain’s prayer was read followed by a moment of silence.  An excerpt from the 1776 Declaration of Independence that best captures the American ideal followed.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness”. 

We then joined voices in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Then, the Picnic

Bev Brisko’s special recipe of BBQ ribs was the main course.  Members brought their favorite picnic side dishes to pass creating a wide diversity of delightful food to complement the fine late summer weather by the lake.

Matching this delectable feast with specific beverages proved too much of a task.  A wide selection was presented including 2 local beers (Atwater Detroit Lager and Frankenmuth Octoberfest), Italian Barbera, Young and Old Cabernet Sauvignons, Rose, Australian Shiraz, California Zinfandel, and German Riesling Spatlese.  A consensus on the best wine or beer with ribs could not be reached.
